Southern Sudan to grant citizenship to northerners after secession
Text of report by privately-owned independent Sudanese newspaper Al-Sudani on 15 January
The Government of Southern Sudan [GoSS] has announced that it would grant citizenship of the southern state to northerners who are in the south if they choose to remain in the south after secession and wish to become its nationals.
It called upon the government in the north to leave the choice to southerners in the north [to be nationals of north or south]. GoSS denied any Israeli presence in the south at a time when the [Khartoum] government affirmed that relations between the south and Israel are old according to the memorandums of some southern leaders and according to what Israel itself had said.
